MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's men's cross country team is headed north to Eugene for the Bill Dellinger Invitational hosted by University of Oregon.
The Gaels are fresh off of a third-place finish out of five competing teams at the Pacific Invitational. Freshman Matteo Byrd led the way for Saint Mary's in just his third collegiate race, finishing 12th overall in a field of 57 runners with a time of 26:19.1. Next in was sophomore Nick Shoemaker, who finished the 8K in 26:44.1 to take 18th place, while junior Andrew Perez clocked a time of 26:59.9 to place 22nd. Rounding out the Gaels' top five finishers were freshmen Noah Barthel and Joshua Sonoda, who crossed the finish line in 26:59.9 and 27:17.6, respectively.
Saint Mary's will send a veteran group of runners to Eugene, with graduate student Stuart Terrill, seniors Joel Fischer, Damian Frausto, Ethan Gray, Jacob Moffett, Joseph O'Connell, Alan Solari,
Diego Urdiales, junior Dennis Cheruiyot, and sophomores Jacob Schuetze, Anthony Sharp, and Jackson Woolf all representing the Gaels. This season, Fischer has the fastest 8K time of this group, which he recorded at the USF Invitational where he led the Gaels across the finish line with a time of 25:14.5.
Last season, Saint Mary's placed sixth of ten teams at the Bill Dellinger Invitational, with Moffett finishing fourth for the Gaels with a time of 24:40.6.
