MARIETTA, Ga. - The 2026-27 Saint Mary's men's tennis recruiting class was ranked No. 15 in the Tennis Recruiting Network (TRN) Mid-Major class rankings, the organization announced on Monday.
Saint Mary's head coach Dan Cardiff got the Gaels into the top-25 for the program's first-ever ranked recruiting class from Tennis Recruiting Network. Cardiff is set to bring in international standouts Alexander Gschiel (Austria) and Frano Sucic (Croatia) as well as local product Devin Stuppin out of St. Ignatius to round out his 2026-27 recruiting class.
Gschiel held a career high ITF Ranking of 289 and is also a six-time ITF Junior Champion. Sucic was a standout dual athlete in both tennis and gymnastics in Croatia. After committing to tennis full time, he became a three-time Croatian National Champ as well as a three-time ITF Junior Doubles Champion. Stuppin brings tradition to the men's tennis program as his father, Michael Stuppin, was a program alum back in 1985. Out of St. Ignatious, Devin Stuppin was a three star recruit according to TRN and ranked No. 47 in the state of California.
In his first year in Moraga, Cardiff led the Gaels to nine dual victories for the most since 2013 when Saint Mary's finished the 2012-13 campaign 10-15. The Gaels earned the six-seed in the 2026 West Coast Conference Tournament for their second consecutive postseason appearance before falling to No. 35 Santa Clara in the quarterfinals. 2026-27 is quickly off to a good start for the Gaels as Cardiff will bring in one of the most decorated and anticipated recruiting classes in program history.
