WSOC | Gaels Continue Hot Start With 3-0 Route of UC Davis

MORAGA, Calif. - Saint Mary's women's soccer continued its strong start to 2026 with a 3-0 non-conference victory versus the UC Davis Aggies. The Gaels came in with a point to prove after a narrow 1-0 victory in Davis a season ago. Saint Mary's continued their dominance of the Aggies with the victory, and now sits at 16-4-1 all-time versus the new Mountain West side.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gaels came out with the energy right away, having the Aggies quickly on the ropes within minutes, when Zoe Maikai connected on a deflected Brooklyn Smith shot in the 13th minute to give the Gaels an early lead. This was the redshirt-sophomore's first collegiate goal and the first of any Gaels' midfielder this season. As the Gaels continued to put the pressure on UC Davis, Ashlyn Vaughn's tenacious pressing led to a takeaway just outside the Aggies box. Vaughn quickly made the Aggies pay, delivering a 25-yard chip over the UC Davis goalkeeper in the 32nd minute to give the Gaels a 2-0 lead. This was her second goal in as many matches.
The fun continued for the Gaels in the 80th minute, when redshirt junior Lexi Chatterton sent a through ball to junior Brooke Fairbanks, who found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal to make it 3-0 in favor of the Gaels. It was an all-out domination on the possession side, with the Gaels recording 17 shots and 16 corner kicks, while allowing only two shots on goal and two corner kicks.

Saint Mary's will close out their homestand against the fourteenth-ranked Georgetown Hoyas on Sunday, August 23rd at 1:00 p.m.. This contest will represent a rematch from last season's upset victory on the road against Georgetown 2-0.
