MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Beach Volleyball has gone back to the Southern California well for their latest roster addition, signing Hazel Richard out of Ventura, California. Richard is the fifth SoCal product brought on by Coach Janice Harrer over the past two seasons.
About her newest addition, Coach Harrer noted:
"Hazel brings an infectious spirit and competitive drive that we are thrilled to have joining our program. Hazel's ability to play both blocker and defender make her a versatile piece of our team. In addition, her ability to communicate, compete, and bring positivity to the team will make her a tremendous asset to our program. Hazel is the kind of player who elevates the people around her and we are excited to see how much she continues to grow at Saint Mary's."
Richard spent four years on the varsity beach volleyball team for Ventura High School, and two years on the varsity indoor team. On the sand, she was four times honored as an All-Channel League selection, leading her team to a record of 58-22 over four seasons. On the hardwood, Richard played as an outside hitter, and helped the Cougars to incredible success in her senior campaign, including a trip to the 2025 CIF Southern Section Division 4 Championship game, and a berth to the 2025 CIF Division 2 State Tournament.
Richard chose Saint Mary's, "because I've always loved Northern California, and when I visited, it truly felt like home. The campus is beautiful, and the coaching staff made me feel so supported and excited to grow as both a player and a person!"
Richard and the Gaels will tune up in the Fall with a handful of pair events before beginning their head-to-head competition schedule in February.
