One of the greatest players in Saint Mary's women's basketball program history returns to the UCU Pavilion sidelines for the 2020-21 season in her third year as the team's assistant coach.
Mauldin returns to Saint Mary's after a one-year stint as an assistant coach at Eastern Washington. There, she helped the Eagles to their seventh straight over-.500 season, going 17-14 with two all-Big Sky Conference players and a third team Academic All-American in Delaney Hodgins. Mauldin also coached for a year at nearby Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill before heading to Cheney, Wash.
"I was just thankful to get the opportunity to come back because once you come here it's hard for you to leave," said Mauldin, "just because of the area and the team, and the girls, and Paul (Thomas). He just makes it such an enjoyable place to be."
Mauldin left her name all over the Saint Mary's and West Coast Conference record books when she graduated in 2014. She is the best rebounder the WCC has ever seen with a career-record 1,282 rebounds. She also holds the school and WCC single-season rebounding records with 427 (12.9 per game) in her senior year of 2013-14. Her 1,478 career points are ninth all-time at Saint Mary's, and she holds the Gaels' records in career free-throws made and attempted. She is fourth in career blocks (97), seventh in career steals (156) and second all-time in games played (131).
Mauldin's duties for the Gaels will include working with the post players, coordinating the team's academics and community service work, managing the team's "Red Zone" kids club, and shouldering some recruiting duties.
