After their best finish at the West Coast Conference Cross Country Championships in 25 years, junior Divan Du Plooy has been named this week's Shamrock Office Solutions Student-Athlete of the Week. Saint Mary's placed 4th out of 10 competing teams, just behind Washington State, Portland, and Gonzaga.
The South Africa native moved up 28 spots throughout the race, taking the lead for Saint Mary's at the 5k mark after sharing pace with Zane Jackson early in the competition. Du Plooy crossed the finish line in 23:42.8 and secured a ninth place finish. His impressive performance earned him First Team All-WCC honors, making him the first Gaels runner to have received this distinction since 2016.
