The winner of the Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week Award for the Week of August 28 is Emily Jensen of Women's Soccer. The senior from Salt Lake City, Utah scored two goals and assisted one in the Gaels 3-0 win over San Jose State University on Sunday.
Jensen has been on fire to start the season, already tallying four goals through four games.
Saint Mary's wasted absolutely no time getting on the scoreboard Sunday, scoring two goals within the first three minutes of the game. Jensen was key in the buildup, playing a great ball to Tessa Salvestrin, who controlled the ball, wriggled her way through two defenders, before launching a left footed shot into the bottom left corner of the Spartans goal to make it 1-0 SMC just 1:16 into the game.
The Gaels didn't waste any time getting their second goal of the game, scoring just a minute and twenty seconds after the opener. This time, Saint Mary's expertly passed their way through the Spartans midfield, with freshman Alessandra Towle leading the charge. Towle burst through the midfield before finding Nayeli Diaz, who laid the ball off to Emily Jensen. Jensen controlled the ball with her left foot, before forcing a left footed shot past the keeper to make it 2-0 Saint Mary's.
The Gaels finished the Spartans off in the 75th minute, with Emily Jensen notching her second of the game. This time, Savannah Schwarze made an excellent pass to Jensen, who managed to blast the ball into the net to make it 3-0 Saint Mary's.
