
Volleyball Falls to #23 Loyola Marymount, 3-0

Los Angeles, CA - The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team (3-9, 0-2) lost to 23rd-ranked Loyola Marymount, 3-0, (9-15, 9-15, 12-15) tonight at Gersten Pavilion. Sarah McFarland of Loyola Marymount tallied a match-high 26 kills and posted an impressive .309 hitting percentage.
Saint Mary's had a another battle on hand in their second conference game of the season, against the Lions, as both teams matched one another point for point to start game one. LMU took the biggest lead of the first game at 13-8 and never looked back recording the 15-9 win.
Game two saw more of the same as the Lions and Gaels matched almost every point. LMU broke things open with a 13-9 lead and used strong defense at the net to take the game, 15-9, and go up two games to none in the match.
The Gaels came out fighting in game three, jumping out to a 5-0 lead, before the Lions came roaring back to take the lead 8-5. The Lions remained on top and put the game and match away 15-12.
Heather Dill had another strong performance leading the Gaels with 15 kills and nine digs. Junior Carla Vandenbark had one of her best games of the season with 10 kills and junior Meagan Smith had a match-high 18 digs. In her first conference game of the year Whitney Hoover tallied 43 assists, three kills, and eight digs.
Saint Mary's returns to action in their conference home opener on Friday, October 6, when Gonzaga comes to McKeon Pavilion. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
