Spokane, WA - Saint Mary's women's soccer (10-0-1) scored three goals in the first-half to give them the 3-1 victory over Gonzaga University (0-8-1) Friday, at Martin Field.
The Gaels first goal came in the first two minutes when sophomore Lucianne Crenshaw powered a shot from the left side of the goal box straight past Bulldog goalkeeper Brooke Longacre. Jennifer Barbera scored SMC's second goal at 43:22 on a shot from Jen Belzer that deflected off of the left goal post straight to Barbera's feet. Crenshaw came back a minute later at 44:23 to find the net for her second goal of the match.
Bulldog Ashley Pryor put the Zags on the board at 81:07 when she fired a long shot from the right wing into the left side of the net past Gael goalkeeper Miren Amaya Zabala on an assist from Patty Blankenship. The Gaels outshot the Bulldogs 24-6.
Gaels goalkeeper Ruth Montgomery tallied two saved shots in the first half as well as recorded her 10 win of the season and second-half goalkeeper Amaya Zabala tallied one save. Bulldog goalkeeper Brooke Longacre collected 12 saves.
The Gaels return to action on Sunday, October 14. They will continue conference action against 3rd-ranked Portland, game set to begin at noon.
