Saint Mary's Outlast Fresno State in Overtime, 68-66

Moraga, CA - Senior forward Jermisha Dosty scored a career and game-high 27 points to pace the Saint Mary's women's basketball team (5-4) to a 68-66 non-conference, overtime victory over the Fresno State Bulldogs (5-5) on Friday night. Dosty finished the game 12-of-15 from the floor and hit two free throws with 2:07 left in the overtime period to give the Gaels the lead for good.

With the score tied at 57-57 Katie Davis hit a three with 13 seconds on the clock to give Saint Mary's a 60-57 advantage. Veronica Mack hit her fourth three-pointer of the second half, with no time on the clock, to send the game into overtime.

After Dosty scored to open the overtime session, Fresno State's Omelogo Udeze converted the three-point play to give the Bulldogs the lead. Lindsay Lopez hit a three with the shot clock running down to give the Gaels a 65-63 lead with 4:16 remaining. Udeze once again went to the free throw line after making a lay-up to give Fresno State a 66-65 lead with 3:28 to play. After Dosty's two free throws and another by Corrie Mizusawa, Lindsay Logan's three-point attempt as time ran out, came up short.

Jermisha added a game-high 13 rebounds to notch her fourth double-double of the season and second in a row. Twin sister Jerkisha Dosty was the only other Gael in double figures with 17 points. Fresno State was paced by Udeze's 20 points and nine rebounds. Udeze was joined in double figures by Logan with 14 points and Mack with 12.

The Gaels shot 49.2 percent from the floor compared to 37.9 percent from the Bulldogs. FS was more efficient from long range as it connected on 7-of-24 three-point attempts, while Saint Mary's was just 3-of-18 from behind the arc. SMC dominated the boards, out-rebounding Fresno State 43-29.

With the exception of the Bulldogs 7-4 lead early in the first half, Saint Mary's led for most of the first half. Saint Mary's took an 8-7 lead at the 15:05 mark of the first period and extended the lead to as much as 21-12 with 8:39 left until the intermission. Fresno State cut the lead to 23-21 on a lay-in by Aritta Lane and two free throws by Udeze cut the Gael lead to 27-26 at halftime.

The second half saw the visitors open a 40-33 lead at the 14:47 mark. Saint Mary's would get two baskets my Jermisha Dosty and a three by Jerkisha to even the score at 40-40 with 10:49 to play. The Gaels extended the lead to 53-45 with 4:17 to play. Following a basket by Jermisha that game the Gaels a 55-51 lead with 1:58 remaining, the game was stalled for 20 minutes when Fresno State's Tiffany Simon ran into a screen at center court. Simon was carted of the floor by a stretcher and transferred to a local hospital for evaluation. Following the delay, Saint Mary's extended the lead to 57-51 but three treys by Fresno State's Mack and a three by SMC's Katie Davis sent the game into overtime.

Saint Mary's returns to action on Friday, December with it travels to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for a 5:00 pm Pacific game. After that, Saint Mary's will travel to Marquette for a noon game on Sunday, December 30.
