Women's Basketball Cruises Past Gonzaga 69-49

Moraga, CA - Jermisha Dosty scored 18 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds to lead the Saint Mary's women's basketball team (10-8/4-2 WCC) to a 69-49 victory over Gonzaga (10-10/1-5 WCC) in Saturday night in front of 1,473 fans at McKeon Pavilion. Jermisha's 15 rebounds gives her 983 career rebounds and ties the West Coast Conference all-time record.

Jerkisha Dosty matched Jermisha's game-high with 18 points while posting her ninth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. The twins posted a double-double in the same game for the second straight night and the fourth time this season. Katie Davis also chipped in with 11 points, hitting 4-of-5 shots from the floor, including 3-of-4 from three point range. Point guard Danielle Ferris had seven points, five assists, two steals and one block.

Saint Mary's never trailed in the game, and when leading 15-14 with 10:05 remaining in the first half, a 12-2 run gave the Gaels an 11-point advantage at the 7:14 mark. SMC would extend the lead to 41-25, but a Shannon Mathews trey, with 28 second in the half, cut the Gaels lead to 41-28 at the intermission.

Jerkisha Dosty led all scored at the half with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor. Mathews had eight points to lead the Bulldogs.

Saint Mary's opened the lead to 56-28 before GU scored its first basket at the 8:37 mark of the second half. From there, the Gaels would cruise to the easy 20-point win. Jermisha Dosty, who had just two rebounds in the first session, grabbed 13 boards in the second half to tie an 11-year old rebounding mark held by Kay Koppelman of Gonzaga. Jermisha will need just one rebound to become the all-time leading rebounder in the West Coast Conference.

Jermisha has 983 rebounds in her career and will need just 17 rebounds to become the first player in WCC history to score 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds in a career.

Mathews finished the game with 19 points to lead the Bulldogs. Mathews was the only GU player to reach double figures. Gonzaga's leading scorer, Jessica Malone, came into the game averaging 16.5 points and was held to just three points. Malone was 1-for-10 from the floor and 1-for-6 from three point range.

Saint Mary's returns to WCC action on Thursday, January 31 when it travels to Santa Clara. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Leavey Center.
