Oct. 13, 2002

Final Stats

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's soccer team (7-6-1/1-0 WCC) downed the San Francisco Lady Dons (7-3-1/0-1 WCC), 3-0, on Sunday, October 13 on Garaventa Field. The Gaels' Sarah Burgess finished with one goal and two assists.

At the end of the first half neither team was able to score as USF outshot the Gaels 4-3. The game was controlled mostly at the midfield as either team had a real opportunity for a goal.

The Gaels came alive in the second half to slowly pull away from the Lady Dons. Junior Lucianne Crenshaw scored the game-winner at the 53:57 minute mark when she hooked the ball to the upper right corner past the USF keeper. The assist was earned by Burgess to give the Gaels a 1-0 lead. The Gaels quickly took a two-goal advantage when Sarah Churchill's corner got out the hands of the Dons' Jennifer Orantes and to the foot of Burgess for her sixth goal of the season. Jennifer Barbera continued the Gaels' route at the 66:01 minute mark when she cocked back and pulled the trigger, blasting the ball to the upper right corner on an assist from Burgess, her second of the game.

Both teams tallied eight shots in the game, while SMC keeper Ruth Montgomery finished with one save and USF's Orantes recorded two saves. Montgomery tallied her second straight shutout for the 31st of her career, tying a Saint Mary's record.

The Gaels will continue West Coast Conference action on Friday, October 18 when they play the Santa Clara Broncos in Santa Clara, CA. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
