Final Stats
Spokane, WA - The Saint Mary's women's basketball team (15-10/9-4 WCC) won its fourth straight game, beating the Gonzaga Bulldogs (11-16/2-11 WCC) by a score of 73-64. Freshman Carey Noakes (Piscataway, NJ) had a career night with 23 points, going 6-for-9 from the field, including 3-for-5 from behind the arc.
Both teams began the game extremely flat, as the first basket wasn't made until three minutes into the game. The Gaels then went on a 12-2 run to take an eight-point lead at the 12:06 minute mark. The 'Zags were able to battle back to tie the score at 17. The Gaels retaliated with an 11-0 run to go up 28-17 with 5:15 left to play in the half. GU would come within one at the end of the first half after a 14-4 explosion. As a team the Gaels finished the first half-shooting 29.2 percent from the floor, a season low.
Noakes finished the first half with 15 points, going a perfect 3-for-3 from long range and 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
SMC started the second half with a 13-4 run to go up by 12 points over the Bulldogs. GU would come within three at the 4:08 minute mark, but the Gaels would slowly pull away. In the last three minutes the Gaels would go a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line to put away the Bulldogs, winning by nine.
Besides Noakes career night, the Dosty twins both collected double-doubles as Kisha finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Misha added 10 points and 15 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures was Katie Davis (Manson, WA) who tallied 12 points. Leading the way for the 'Zags was Jessica Malone who tallied 16 points.
As a team the Gaels shot 40.0 percent from the floor, 29.4 percent from behind the arc and 80.0 percent from the free throw line. The Gaels out-rebounded the 'Zags 38-27.
The Gaels will continue West Coast Conference action as they travel to Portland to play the Pilots. This game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Chiles Center.
Other Notes: Gaels starting guard Julie Morris, exited the game after two minutes of play due to sickness. Starting point guard Danielle Ferris also played under the weather. Ironically, freshman Savannah Williams did not make the trip due to the flu.
