
Randy Bennett Adds Australian Daniel Kickert To 2002 Recruiting Class

Moraga, CA - Saint Mary's College head men's basketball coach Randy Bennett announced that Daniel Kickert (Melbourne, Australia), was admitted to Saint Mary's, and will join the men's basketball program next season. Kickert becomes the fourth addition to the Gaels class for the upcoming season.
"I am very excited to add Daniel to this year's class," commented head coach Randy Bennett. "He will have a chance to play early in his career, and I look forward to the opportunity to coach him. He is athletic, physical, can pass the ball and had a good understanding of the game. He is a good compliment to our front court players and he will add depth at both post positions."
Kickert is a 6'10" forward/center is currently playing basketball at the Australian Insitute of Sport where is his averaging 18.6 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. His is also shooting 48.0 percent from the field and 88.0 percent from the foul line. Kickert will rejoin fellow Australian Adam Caporn, who started at point guard for the Gaels last season, on next year's roster. The two were teammates at AIS during the 2001 season, before Caporn came to Saint Mary's.
Kickert helped guide the Victorian state under-18 team to a bronze medal finish in 2000, when he averaged 16.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.5 blocks per game. Two years later, as a member of the under-20 Victorian state bronze medal team, Kicker averaged 15.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.5 blocks per game.
Kickert joins a class that continues to increase size on the Gaels front line. Kickert joins Frederic Adjiwanou, a transfer from Foothill Community College, and Jonathon Sanders, a transfer from Colorado State, and Blake Sholberg, a 7'1" freshman from Vacaville, CA in this years recruiting class. Adjiwanou is a 6'9" power forward who averaged 18 points and eight rebounds as a freshman at Foothill. Sanders a 6'7" forward/guard will be eligible to play in December of 2002.
