Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's women's tennis team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 5-2 victory over the University of the Pacific on January 29 after the four-hour event. The Gaels won all three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches to triumph over the Tigers.

In singles play at the number-one spot, freshman Jasna Brnjakovic defeated Katarina Heil winning 6-3, 7-5. At the fifth spot, Megan Schulman beat Jaimee Bremner of Pacific to help the Gaels (7-5, 6-3). The match that secured the win for SMC came from junior Nicole Hunstock in the six position, after defeating Jessica Beauchene in three full sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-1). Although Kate Harden and Catalina Fillol were defeated, their matches were fought well and each played all three sets.

In doubles action, Saint Mary's swept all three matches for the match point. At number-one team Brnjakovic/Fillol defeated Heil/Hizo 8-5, while at number-two team Verrier/Hunstock beat Kostenko/Bremner 8-4. At the number-three position, team Harden/Schulman earned victory over Beauchene/Lester, 8-5.

Coming up next, the Gaels will host Santa Clara on Feb. 1 beginning at 11:00 A.M.
