Cal Poly Defeats Saint Mary's in Women's Tennis, 6-0

San Luis Obispo, CA- The Cal Poly women's tennis team won its eighth straight match of the season against the Gaels with a 6-0 victory, Sunday afternoon at the Mustang Courts. With the loss, the Gaels fall to 7-8, while the Mustangs improve to 14-4 on the season.

The Mustangs managed to sweep the singles matches, led by No. 1 singles spot Samantha Waller who defeated Kate Harden 6-4, 6-3. Valerie Verrier at the No. 2 singles spot put up a fight against Cal Poly's Chelsey Thompson, winning the first set 7-5, only to fall behind and lose the second set 6-3 and the (5-10) decision. Lindsay Herndon-Ortega also dropped a close 2-6, 6-4 (6-10) decision at the No. 6 spot, losing to Reese Galido.

The doubles point was not contested in the match as both teams agreed to play the singles matches first.

The women's team will return to action when it competes in the Sacramento State Invitational, March 28-30 beginning at Noon on Friday at Sac State.
