MALIBU, Calif. — The Saint Mary's women's tennis team opened the first of two matches in Southern California, falling 6-0 to ninth-ranked Pepperdine on Friday afternoon.
The Waves set the tone early by securing the doubles point with a win by default in the three-spot. Pepperdine carried the momentum into singles play, where they closed out the straight-set victories to complete the sweep.
In doubles action, Madison Weekley and Elif Tuana Gunal had their match go unfinished. The duo was in a strong position up 3-2 before play stopped. Gunal posted a 6-1, 6-3 score in her singles match but ultimately fell in the closest singles contest of the match for the Gaels.
