Volleyball Undefeated After 3-1 Win Over Northeastern

Northridge, CA- The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team took their opening match of the Fremont Investment & Loan Invitational after defeating the Northeastern Huskies by a final score of 3-1. Even though the Gaels took the first two games of the match in commanding fashion 30-22 and 30-24, the Huskies fought back to take game three by a score of 30-25. However, Saint Mary's clinched the match by taking the fourth and deciding game by a score of 30-26. With the victory the Gaels improve to 2-0 on the season, while Northeastern fell to 0-2.
Two Gaels also recorded their first double-double match of the season when senior Jill Parmele and junior Lindsey Bogason each reach the mark in kills and digs. Parmele totaled 10 kills and 13 digs during the match while also posting one solo block and four block assists. Bogason kept pace with 12 kills and 10 digs for the match, but also recorded two aces and four block assists.
Saint Mary's exhibited a balanced and consistent attack throughout the match with a total of four players recording double digit kills. Aside from Parmele and Bogason, sophomore Kaui Salzman led the way for the Gaels by recording a match-high 16 kills. Salzman also posted three serving aces and six digs for the match. Right behind Salzman, was junior Stacey O'Connor who finished with 12 kills, tied for the match-high with six block assists, and finished with three digs.
Also making major contributions throughout the match were freshman Mandy Bible and junior Lindsay Hardy. Bible led the Gaels with 32 assist, while Hardy finished with 21 assists and a match-high five aces to help guide Saint Mary's to victory. Freshman Cassandra Kolkka also paced the Gaels for the match with a team-high 14 digs.
Saint Mary's will next opponent will be the CS Northridge Matadors tonight at 7:00 PM in the final match of the Fremont Investment & Loan Invitational.
