Women's Soccer Falls to Fresno State

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's soccer team gave up two unanswered goals over an eight minute span to the Fresno State Bulldogs and could never recover, ending in a 3-1 Fresno victory Friday at Garaventa Field.

The Gaels fell behind early when Fresno State's Kortney Lewis scored the game's first goal at the eight-minute mark.

Saint Mary's answered with its only goal of the game when Chelsea Montero beat Fresno goalkeeper Jeannette Paine in the 33rd minute to tie the game 1-1.

Fresno State scored two goals, one from Barbara Davis and one from Eriko Yoshiki to put them up 3-1 just two minutes into the second half. The Gaels could never recover.

Saint Mary's attempted 11 shots in the first half and finished the game with 12 shots. Fresno State only took eight shots, but made good use of those attempts by scoring on three of them.

With the loss, the Gaels drop to 2-3 on the season and return to action Friday when the travel to Los Angeles to take on the USC Trojans.
