MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's concluded their two game home stand, recording a win against Boston University who visited Moraga for the first time in 25 years. The match also marked a historic milestone for goalkeeper
Kate Plachy, who recorded her eighth career shutout, moving her into the top-ten all time in program history.
The Gaels played an action packed game with their second consecutive shutout, defeating the Terriers 4-0 to complete a perfect 2-0 weekend. Goals came from across the board as
Sydney Middaugh,
Ashlyn Vaughn,
Briana Salvetti, and
Brooklyn Smith all found the back of the net. Middaugh and Smith are tied for the team lead now with two goals each while Schwarze recorded her second assist, leading the team with six points on the season.
FIRST HALF SMC 2 - 0 BU
Saint Mary's wasted little time getting on the board, striking in the 12th minute when
Sydney Middaugh finished low to the left corner off assists from
Ashlyn Vaughn and
Savannah Schwarze.
The Gaels doubled their lead in the 32nd minute, with Ennis and Schwarze combining to set up freshman
Ashlyn Vaughn, who scored the first goal of her collegiate career. By the end of the half, the Gaels had taken a total of 10 shots, led by Vaughn with four and Middaugh close behind with three.
FINAL SMC 4 -0 BU
Early in the second half, Boston was awarded a penalty kick, but Plachy came up with a crucial stop against Giulianna Gianino to preserve the shutout.
The Gaels extended their lead in the 74th minute when
Briana Salvetti capitalized on a penalty kick, recording her first goal of the season.
Brooklyn Smith capped the scoring in the 88th minute, with her second goal as a Gael, assisted by
Isabel Lendman and
Zoe Maikai.
