
Volleyball Falls To SMU, 3-1

San Luis Obispo, CA- The Saint Mary's women's volleyball played a hard fought match against the SMU Mustangs before eventually falling by the final score of 3-1 in its second game of the Cal Poly Invitational. Game scores for the Mustangs victory over the Gaels were 30-22, 16-30, 30-23, and 34-32. With the loss Saint Mary's falls to 4-2 on the season while SMU improved to 3-2.
The Gaels fell behind early to SMU after dropping the first game 30-22. The Mustang's were aided by Saint Mary's .121 attacking percentage and only 12 kills. However the Gaels stormed back to take game two in commanding fashion by a score of 30-16 behind the teams .500 attacking percentage. Unfortunately, Saint Mary's lost the next two games and eventually the match to the Mustangs after SMU produced more kills and digs than the Gaels.
Jill Parmele recorded her third double-double in kills and digs of the season. The senior finished with a match-high 16 kills and 11 digs. Parmele also posted seven block assists. Also playing well for the Gaels was freshman Cassandra Kolkka who recorded her first collegiate double-double in kills and digs following her 13 kill and 11 dig performance. The freshman also added one block assist and one ace for the match. Wrapping up the Gael contributors was Lindsey Bogason who posted nine kills and five digs for the match against SMU.
The Gaels resume action at the Cal Poly Invitational today at 4:00 PM in their final match against Texas-San Antonio.
