
No. 12 Volleyball Drops Tough Road Match to No. 19 San Diego

San Diego, CA - The No. 12-ranked Saint Mary's volleyball team dropped their second West Coast Conference game on Saturday night against a tough No. 19-ranked San Diego team, 3-0, at the Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego, CA. With the loss, the Gaels fall to 22-3 overall and 11-2 in conference play.
Saint Mary's remains in second place in the conference, behind the Toreros, who now have a 19-4 overall record and a 12-0 conference mark.
The Gaels were led by Kaui Salzman, who had eight kills and 12 digs and freshman Missie Stidham had seven kills and 12 digs. Lauren Holland added 10 digs for the Gaels and Mandy Bible had 30 assists and seven digs.
In Game 3, both teams went back-and-forth for the first third of the game, with San Diego taking an 11-9 lead before the Gaels called timeout. Saint Mary's used its final timeout of the match after the Toreros went ahead 19-13. San Diego went on to win the game 30-24, and the match.
In Game 2, Saint Mary's jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead, forcing San Diego to take its first timeout. The Gaels stayed ahead, before San Diego made a mini-run, cutting the Gaels' lead to 16-13, before Saint Mary's called its first timeout. San Diego came back to take a 26-25 lead, before the Gaels called their second timeout. San Diego won the final six points of the match, going on to win 30-25. The Gaels were led by Stidham, who had three kills in the game and Salzman added two kills.
In Game 1, the Gaels battled back-and-forth with the Toreros, with San Diego winning two straight points to take a 17-16 lead before the Gaels took their first timeout. With the score tied 22-22, the Toreros won four straight points to take a 26-22 lead, forcing the Gaels to take their final timeout. Saint Mary's cut the Toreros' lead to 29-26, before San Diego called its first timeout on game point. San Diego won the next point and the game 30-26. Saint Mary's was led by Cassandra Kolkka and Mariko Coverdale, who each had four kills in the game. Stacey O'Connor added three kills and Stidham had seven digs.
Saint Mary's wraps up the regular season at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, November 20 when it travels to San Francisco to take on the Dons at War Memorial Gymnasium.
