Football Signs 14 Players on First Day of Signing Period

Moraga, CA - Saint Mary's College head football coach Vincent White and his staff have signed 14 players to national letter's of intent on Wednesday. The Gaels have added seven offensive and seven defensive players to the roster for the 2004 season.
"With this recruiting class we needed to add depth, size and starters to the roster," commented coach White. "We needed to get bigger as a team so we brought in big offensive and defensive linemen, as well as taller defensive backs and linebackers. Offensive line and defensive line additions were key recruits, as we needed to add depth and get players up front to fit the needs of our system."
White and his staff looked for size and speed in this year's recruiting class. The offensive unit will add four offensive lineman and three running backs. On the defensive side of the football the Gaels welcome three linebackers, two defensive lineman, and two defensive backs.
"The two running backs that we were able to get will add athletic skill, talent and power to our running backs," added White. "I thought the entire coaching staff did an excellent job in recruiting this class, Stephen Clark and Derek Mason were very influential in bring this class together."
Blake Anderson (OL, 6-5, 300, Salinas, CA) was a two-year letter winner at Palma High School at left tackle. Anderson, who also played baseball and wrestled at Palma HS, was voted the team's Most Valuable Offensive Lineman and helped his team to a Division I Central Coast Section Championship in 2003.
Steven Alvidrez (DL, 6-3, 270, Bakersfield, CA) was a three-year starter on the football team at Liberty High School in Bakersfield, CA. He was a defensive lineman and also played center and was the team's long snapper. Alvidrez was a team captain in 2003 after being selected as a 2002 Honorable Mention All-Southeast Yosemite League honoree. In 2001 he was voted the Most Outstanding Lineman by his teammates.
Jordan Ariche (RB/DB, 5-10, 180, South San Francisco, CA) garnered eight varsity letters at Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco. He lettered four years in football, two years in baseball and one year in basketball and track. He rushed for 551 yards and eight touchdowns his senior season. He was a three-time WCAL All-League selection and garnered the team's Most Improved Player award as a junior.
Deshon Benton (RB, 5-11, 195, Modesto, CA) comes to Saint Mary's from Thomas Downey High School where he rushed for 1,770 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior. In his three-year football career Benton rushed for 3,959 yards, 32 TD's, and defensively he had 143 tackles and three interceptions. He was a three-time team MVP and a two-time league MVP. He was named the Modesto Bee Player of the Year in 2003 and also garnered first team all-league honors at running back and defensive back in 2002.
Jovan Bonelli (LB, 6-1, 215, Phoenix, AZ) will come to Saint Mary's from Glendale Community College where he played football for one year. In that season he tallied 60 total tackles, which included 7.5 tackles for a loss and three sacks. Bonelli prepped at Cactus High School in Glendale, AZ and lettered in football, wrestling and track. Was a first team all-region and all-state selection as a senior at CHS.
Spencer Dohm (LB, 6-3, 225, Flagstaff, AZ) is currently a senior at Flagstaff High School where he lettered four years in football. In his senior season, Dohm collected 145 tackles and in 2002 he set a school record with 154 total tackles. He was a first team all-conference selection in 2002 and 2003, and garnered honorable mention all-state recognition both years. He was selected as the Arizona Daily Sun Defensive Player of the Year following his senior season.
Elwen Freitas (OL, 6-2, 285, Waianae, HI) collected six letters, three in football and three in track and field at the Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu, HI. Freitas carries a 3.1 GPA and was also recruited by San Diego, Alcorn State and Idaho.
Alexander Keyes (DB, 6-0, 170, Oakland, CA) was a two-year letter winner in football at McClymonds High School in Oakland. Keyes was a First Team All-Oakland Athletic League selection as a senior after grabbing a team-high four interceptions in 2003. He was also a team captain and was voted the Most Dedicated Player by his teammates.
Curtis Masaniai (OL, 6-3, 300, Waipahu, HI) lettered three years in football at Waipahu High School. Masaniai also garnered three varsity letters in track and field. He was selected as a member of the OAI West All-Star Team following his senior season, and was selected to the Star Bulletin Honorable Mention All-State team as a senior.
Anthony Petty (RB, 5-11, 200, Oakland, CA) led the Oakland Athletic League in rushing the past two seasons while attending Fremont High School. As a senior he rushed for 1,408 yards and 15 touchdowns and as a junior he totaled 1,483 yards and 14 scores. We was a two-time team MVP and a two-time All-Alameda Newspapers Group selection at running back.
Brian Sallee (DL, 6-4, 250, Middletown, CA) played football for two seasons at Mendocino Junior College where he collected 117 total tackles and 12.5 sacks in nine games in 2003. Following the 2003 season he was a First Team All-Bay Valley Conference selection. Sallee prepped at Middletown High School and was an All-Lake County, All-Empire and a Division II All-NCL selection.
Jordan Stone (LB, 6-1, 220, Lakeland, FL) will come to Saint Mary's from San Francisco City College where he played only year. In that year, he was a member of a team that earned a national championship. Stone prepped at Barstow High School and lettered in football, basketball, and track.
Daudi White (DB, 6-1, 205, Pittsburg, CA) played football for two seasons at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg. In his second season at LMC, he collected 42 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and seven pass deflections. As a prep athlete at Antioch High School, White was a First Team All-Bay Valley Athletic League selection in football, basketball and track. He also garnered the team's MVP honors as a senior.
Dominic Williams (OL, 6-2, 300, Colorado Springs, CO) was a three-year letter winner in football at Harrison High School. He also lettered in track (1), baseball (2) and wrestling (3). In 2000 and 2001 Williams garnered Division 3A All-Big Southern League honors. He was also a Division 4A all-state selection in football and wrestling. In 2002 when he finished second in the state wrestling championships.
