
No. 23 Volleyball Bounces Back With Victory Over Virginia

College Station, TX - After dropping the first game against Virginia, the No. 23rd ranked Saint Mary's volleyball team rallied to win the next three games in convincing fashion, beating the Cavaliers 3-1 on Saturday morning in their final match of the Texas A&M Tournament in College Station, TX. Kaui Salzman led the Gaels with a career-high 26 kills and Missie Stidham also recorded a career-high with 17 kills and a career-high 30 digs.
Saint Mary's finished the tournament with a 2-1 record, with their lone loss coming against host No. 16 Texas A&M on Friday night. On the season the Gaels improve to 5-1.
The Gaels dropped the first game 30-26, but then turned on the offense, beating Virginia 30-13, 30-16, 30-15.
Salzman, a senior outside hitter, topped her previous career-high of 25 kills, and also added 16 digs and eight total blocks. Salzman was joined by Stidham who recorded two career-highs. Salzman hit .351 in four games and Stidham hit .340.
Saint Mary's also a career-high from Christina Kirk, who recorded 14 total blocks, to go along with 10 kills. Mandy Bible had a match-high 56 assists and added 15 digs and five total blocks, giving Saint Mary's four players with double-doubles.
The Gaels hit .222 in Game 1, .459 in Game 2, .245 in Game 3, and .267 in Game 4, while holding the Cavaliers to .239 in Game 1, .021 in Game 2, -.053 in Game 3, and -.043 in Game 4.
Cassandra Kolkka had seven kills, 15 digs and two aces, and Lyndsey Parker had 15 digs. As a team the Gaels recorded 100 digs and 38 total blocks.
Saint Mary's returns home to face Florida A&M in its home opener on Saturday, September 10 at 7:05 p.m. at McKeon Pavilion. The Gaels will play in an Alumni Match on Friday, September 9 at 7:05 p.m. at McKeon Pavilion, prior to playing in their non-conference match.
