
Tron Smith Named WCC Player of the Week

San Bruno, CA - Saint Mary's senior guard Tron Smith (Moreno Valley, CA) was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday. In the Gaels' only game of the week, Smith helped the Gaels remain unbeaten by scoring a game-high 20 points in a 69-65 come-from-behind win over San Diego State in the John R. Wooden Classic.
Smith finished the game with 20 points and five rebounds. He did most of his damage in the second half, scoring 16 points in the second session. With the Gaels trailing by four at halftime, and eight (34-26) 1:24 into the second half, Smith capped an 11-0 run by the Gaels with five straight points to give SMC a 37-34 lead with 16:39 left to play.
After going 0-2 from the field in 11 first-half minutes, Smith, who did not leave the court the final 19 minutes of the game, shot 5-of-9 from the floor with two assists and two steals in the second half.
Through seven games, Smith is the team's fourth-leading scorer as he's averaging 10.0 points per game. He is also fourth on the team with 14 assists to average two helpers per game, is averaging 2.1 rebounds per game and has five steals.
