MORAGA, Calif. — First year head coach Mickey McConnell's first roster continues to shape out here in transfer portal season, as he has added another solid big out of the portal with the signing of Thomas Ndong. Ndong helped Cal Baptist to their first Division I NCAA Tournament this past March, and now will look to help the Gaels back to their sixth tournament in six years in 2026-27.
"Thomas gives us much needed depth in the frontcourt and has the versatility to play both the four and the five," said McConnell, "He is a strong rebounder and proven winner, having come to us from an NCAA Tournament team at Cal Baptist. We are excited for him to get to campus and get to work with the rest of our guys."
Originally hailing from Montreal, Ndong appeared in 32 of the Lancers 34 games last season, starting 19. The 6-10 big man averaged 4.9 PPG and 6.5 RPG, shooting 56.8% from the field. He dropped a career-high 14 in his CBU debut against USC Upstate, then matched those 14 points to go along with 11 boards in his first collegiate double-double at Utah. Arguably his biggest game for the Lancers, however, came just two weeks later against Sacramento State, scoring 12 and ripping down 17 rebounds. In his time at CBU, Ndong was coached by now Gaels Associate Head Coach Hardy Asprilla.
Ndong began his collegiate career at Oregon State, appearing in 34 games over his first two collegiate seasons. He spent his prep career at the NBA Academy Latin America in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He also represented his home nation of Canada in the FIBA U18 Americas Championship, helping his squad to a third place finish, averaging six points and six boards per game while shooting 67% from the field.
Coming to Moraga as a senior, Ndong should bring some veteran presence to the post position for the Gaels heading into the 2026 campaign.
