No. 59 Women's Tennis Falls to No. 19 Pepperdine

Malibu, CA - The Saint Mary's women's tennis team dropped just its second competition of the year against WCC opponent Pepperdine. Pepperdine entered Tuesday's match with a national ranking of No. 19. The Gaels are currently ranked No. 59. Pepperdine won the match 6-1. Saint Mary's is currently 15-2 on the season and 7-1 against WCC opponents.

The competition got underway with doubles matches. Aude Lambert and Jessica Hoath dropped their match 8-5. Femke Strijbis and Nienke Strijbis also dropped their match by a score of 8-5. The twin sisters were named WCC Doubles Team of the Month for March after going 6-1 in the previous month. Marah Calvo and Erin Young won their doubles match by a score of 8-6. The pair has won five straight doubles matches and nine of their last ten.

Lambert dropped a tough match against Pepperdine's Sylvia Kosakowsi. Kosakowski, who is currently ranked No. 56, won the match 6-4, 7-5. Hoath also faced off against tough competiton. Hoath matched up against No. 95 Katia Sabate and lost 6-0, 6-3. No.120 Femke Strijbis dropped her match 7-6, 6-1. Feline Charlot also fell in her match by a score of 6-1, 6-4.

Calvo came in to today's competition with one of the longest active win streaks in the nation. She dropped her first match of the season to Anete Bandere by a score of 6-2, 6-4. Despite her loss today, Calvo's 15-game winning streak was truly a spectacle to behold. The sophomore transfer, now 15-1 on the season, has been a big part of the Gaels winning season so far.

Young recorded the Gaels only point today as she won her match 7-5, 6-1. The sophomore has won her last four singles matches and improved to 12-3 on the season.

The Gaels will return to action tomorrow against another tough Southern California opponent. The No. 59 Gaels will face off against No. 37 UC Irvine.
