Box Score
Palo Alto, CA -After trading zero's with the Cardinal for the first two innings, Stanford posted back to back four run innings in the third and fourth, and held the Gaels scoreless in the top of the fifth inning to end the game by run-rule. The Gaels bats were quieted on the day by tough Stanford pitching, as sophomore designated hitter Jenna Smith was the only batter to record a hit.
After escaping a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the second inning, walks and timely hitting came back to haunt the Gaels in the third inning as Stanford took a four run lead. It was the same story in the bottom of the fourth, as a hit by pitch and two walks led to three out of Stanford's four runs on the inning.
Freshman Maryanne Cronin and senior Megan Galloway each pitched two innings on the day, and gave up three and two earned runs respectively.
The Gaels look to bounce back in their season home opener Saturday against the Netherlands National Team. The Gaels only exhibition game of the season will be held at Cottrell Field at 12 noon.
