SB | Gaels Honored as an Easton/NFCA Academic Team, 13 Named Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — As just announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, Saint Mary's Softball has been named an Easton/NFCA Academic Team, with 13 individual student-athletes earning Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
The Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Awards recognize student-athletes who achieve a minimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. In addition, the NFCA honors Academic Teams each fall, based on overall team GPA, highlighting programs that excel academically.
The Gaels have earned the team award in four of the last five seasons. Individually, Chelsea Bennett, Hannah Ferguson, Janessa Parras, Lauren Tran, Madeline Haun, Sasha Canedo, Taylor Lane, Victoria Castillo, Tori Cervantes Izzy Scolini, Kiah Silva, Camryn Smith and Ella Thurman were all honored, with six of those 13 earning this distinction multiple times in their careers, and seven getting the nod for the first time in their times at Saint Mary's.
The Gaels were one of four West Coast Conference schools to earn the academic team honor, joining the likes of Santa Clara, LMU and San Diego. The nine Gael student-athletes honored as All-America Scholar Athletes come in at second most of any WCC program this year.
