Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's softball team finished the weekend with a perfect record, as they earned an 11-3 win over the Sacred Heart Pioneers in their final game of their invitational. The Gaels posted a 2-0 record against both the UC Riverside Highlanders and Sacred Heart Pioneers this weekend, improving to 10-10 overall on the season.
Senior Megan Galloway had another solid performance in the circle for the Gaels, holding the Pioneers scoreless in the final three innings, while earning her fourth win of the year.
Errors haunted the Pioneers in the fifth inning, as Saint Mary's scored six runs, with only two of them being earned. All but the fifth and ninth batters crossed home plate in the bottom of the inning for the Gaels, as Saint Mary's went from being down 3-1 to taking a 7-3 advantage.
In the bottom of the sixth the Gaels experienced another offensive burst, scoring four more runs and posting their second consecutive run-rule win over Sacred Heart. Freshman Lindsay Verber fought off Sacred Heart's pitcher in her first career at bat, hitting a single to right field and brining in the Gaels' final two runs.
The Gaels return to action on March 19-22 in Honolulu, HI, as they participate in a four day tournament at the University of Hawaii. Saint Mary's will first face the California Golden Bears on Wednesday, March 19 at noon, and will finish the day against Hawaii at 4:00 PM.
