Drafted by the Seattle Mariners with the 881st pick in the 29th round of the 2012 MLB Draft.
As a senior (2012): Was named to the Johnny Bench Watch List which is the award given out annually to the top catcher in college baseball...is tops in the conference in throwing runners out, as of 5/27 he has thrown out 58 percent (29-of-49) runners attemping to steal...played in 50 games making 47 starts for SMC...hit .219 going 33-for-151...scored 17 runs, clubbed nine doubles and drove in 13...had nine multiple-hit games on the year...in West Coast Conference play he hit .176 with 13 hits in 74 at bats, scored nine runs and drove in six runs...went 3-for-4 with a double in the win over No. 11 Arizona State on 3/6...had a season-long five-game hitting streak from 3/1 to 3/6...went 2-for-4 against No. 2 Stanford.
Summer League (2011): Played for the Bend Elks in the West Coast League with teammates Donald Collins, Kurt Jahnke and Shawn O'Brien...played in 33 games, hit .208 going 21-for-101...finished the year with five doubles, five runs batted in and six runs scored...defensively, he boasted a .985 fielding percentage, recording 163 put outs and 30 assists.
As a junior (2011): Starting 51 games at catcher, DeMello swung the stick well in 2011 for the Gaels...hitting at a .282 clip, which was third highest on the team...going 48-for-170...he clubbed 10 doubles which was third best on the squad and added 19 RBI...feasting on LHP, he enjoyed an inflated batting average of .326 by swatting 15 hits in 46 at-bats...ever the threat with runners in scoring position, DeMello was a consistent force for the Gaels with a .304 batting average when needing to bring his teammates home...he finished third on the team with 13 multi-hit games...started the year reaching base safely in nine consecutive games...hit .292 in West Coast Conference action, going 21-for-72 with 11 runs scored, five doubles and 10 RBI...tallied a career-best three RBI in the game against San Diego on 5/1...behind the plate on defense, DeMello recorded 329 put outs, 73 assists and a scant 4 errors giving him an overall fielding percentage of .990 which was second highest on the team.
As a sophomore (2010): Appeared in 27 games and appeared in the starting line-up 18 times at catcher...finished the season with a .258 batting average, with three RBI and two runs scored in 66 at-bats...hit safely in 13 games and had three multiple hit games...his first multi-hit game was a career-high three hits against Loyola Marymount on Apr. 30 when he was 3-for-5 with a run scored against the Lions in a 14-9 win...had a pair of doubles in the series opener against Seattle on May 21 when he was 2-for-5 against the Redhawks...behind the plate, he threw out 8-of-16 runners trying to steal while allowing just one past ball.
As a freshman (2009): Played in 26 games as a true-freshman starting 14…made his first collegiate start and Saint Mary's debut on 2/21 versus Oregon, where he collected his first collegiate hit and RBI…hit .192 on the season going 10-for-52 with eight RBI and two doubles…on 3/7 went 2-for-4 against Sacramento State…went 6-for-8 with runners on third.
High School: Came to Moraga by way of Roseville, CA, where he attended Roseville HS...was a four-time letterman in baseball...was a four-time first team all-area honorable mention selection and a two-time all-metro honorable mention honoree...as a henior, he posted a .411 batting average in 26 games, scoring 25 runs with 18 runs batted in with six homeruns and 12 doubles...has 12 multi-hit games, while committing zero errors in the field...was a 2008 Louisville Slugger Honorable Mention All-American...as a junior, was named to the all-metro second team.
