BSB | Saint Mary’s Set to Honor Former All-Time Wins Leader Dr. Miles McAfee with Jersey Retirement

MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's baseball program is pleased and honored to announce the Jersey Retirement ceremony of program great and former all-time wins leader Dr. Miles McAfee who led the Gaels baseball program from 1973-1980.
McAfee was the fifth head coach in the history of Saint Mary's Baseball and helped put together some of the most successful campaigns in program history including a program record 41 wins during the 1977 season. McAfee helped give life to a program that had just one winning season over its first five years from 1968-1972. After taking over in 1973, McAfee climbed the program's win total in each of his first five seasons before tallying a program record 41 wins in 1977. He concluded his eight-year stint at Saint Mary's with a 215-188-7 all-time record and was the program's winningest head coach for 45 years. The record would finally fall just last season after current head coach Eric Valenzuela won his 216th game on opening weekend against Saint Louis.
McAfee lived an inspiring life, earning a bachelor degree from what is now known as Tuskegee University before earning a Ph.D. in Business Law after his coaching days at Saint Mary's. McAfee became a well known figure in the sports management and agent industry as he later founded Golden Gate Sports Management company in 1980. The Atlanta native went on to retire as the President and CEO of the management group and was a widely known figure in the industry.
Saint Mary's is proud to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Miles McAfee by officially retiring his number eleven jersey in a pregame ceremony on Saturday, April 18. First pitch for the Gaels matchup against Gonzaga is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with the pregame jersey retirement ceremony slated to occur roughly 15 minutes before first pitch. Gates to Louis Guisto Field at Br. Ronald Gallagher Stadium open one hour prior to first pitch.
