
Women's Volleyball Lands Seven On All-Conference Teams

San Bruno, CA- The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team had seven players garner All-West Coast Conference post-season honors, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. Seniors Shannon Lowell and Kapua Kamana'o, and sophomores Gabby Jolly and Lauren Corp were named to the All-WCC First Team. Honorable Mention honors were given to senior Megan York and sophomore Missy White, while Natalie Loos was named to the WCC All-Freshman Team.
Earning All-WCC First Team honors for the third-straight year was middle blocker Shannon Lowell. The senior from San Jose, CA, Lowell continued her dominance at the net throughout the year, leading the WCC in solo blocks (15), block assists (124), total blocks (139), and blocks per set (1.40). Lowell also threw down 215 kills, averaging 2.17 per set. Among the Saint Mary's hitters, Lowell is second in hitting percentage (.299), while also adding 38 digs on the year. For her career, Lowell is first in the SMC career record books in total blocks (527) and block assists (474), while breaking into the top-10 in solo blocks (53).
Setter Kapua Kamana'o earned her fourth all-conference award and was named to the All-WCC First Team for the second time in her career. The Honolulu, Hawaii native lead the team with 636 assists, averaging 6.42 per set. The senior added 22 aces and helped the Gaels defensively as well, chipping in 168 digs on the year to average 1.70 per set. Kamana'o has 3,566 career assists, which puts her at third all-time at SMC in a career.
Outside hitter Lauren Corp once again led the Gaels attack and was an All-WCC First Team selection for the first time in her career. The sophomore from Orange, CA led the team in kills (283) and kills per set (2.86), while hitting .239 on the year. Defensively, Corp was second on the team with 287 digs, averaging 2.90 per set, while chipping in 55 total blocks on the season.
Rounding out the All-WCC First Team selections for Saint Mary's is middle blocker Gabby Jolly. The sophomore from San Francisco, CA had a breakout season, leading the team in hitting percentage (.327) and finishing second on the team in kills (249) and kills per set (2.57). Jolly, the Co-WCC Player of the Month in September, was also a force defensively, finishing second on the team and fifth in the conference with 1.06 blocks per set.
Talented newcomer Natalie Loos was named to the WCC All-Freshman Team after a solid freshman campaign. Loos contributed 160 kills, averaging 1.65 kills per set. The Carlsbad, CA native finished third on the team in total blocks with 100, including seven solo blocks. Her 1.03 blocks per set put her at sixth in the conference, while the freshman also hit .244 and added 34 digs.
Rounding out the all-conference honors are Megan York and Missy White. York earns her fourth all-conference award after another year of contributing all over the court. The senior from San Antonio, TX finished first on the team in digs (330), second in kills (229), third in aces (24), and fifth in total blocks (53). White earned her second consecutive all-conference honor after being named to the WCC All-Freshman Team last year. This season, the setter from Cottonwood Heights, UT was second on the team with 496 assists, averaging 5.11 per set. The sophomore also ranked third in the WCC with 33 aces on the season.
The Gaels return to action on Saturday, November 27 when the Gaels host the Pacific Tigers at McKeon Pavilion. The match is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
