2014 (Senior): Wrapped up career at Saint Mary's with a solid season out of the bullpen for the Gaels ... Appeared in 18 games with one start and compiled an 0-3 record and 4.67 ERA ... Worked a season-high three innings on Feb. 15 at New Mexico State, striking out a season-high three while allowing just one run ... Enjoyed a three-game stretch near the end of the season in which he did not allow an earned run in games against San Jose State, San Diego and Nevada.
2013 (Junior): Finished the year with a 1-0 record, tossing 20.2 innings, allowing 22 earned runs, walked 12 and struck out 18... earned a win against San Jose State in a 9-8 come from behind victory... did not allow an earned run in 12 of his 19 appearances... had a streak of 5.2 scoreless innings in relief... tossed two scoreless innings of relief on three occasions.
2012 (Sophomore): Made 22 appearances, putting himself in the top 10 in the category in the single-season record book...has thrown a career-high in innings pitched with 33.1 innings in relief...for the seasons he was 1-4 with a 3.24 ERA...he allowed 30 hits, 12 earned runs with 18 walks and 23 strike outs...he averaged 6.21 K/9 with a 2.3 K/BB ratio...earned the win in the series finale against Southern Utah on 2/19 that went into extra innings...pitched a scoreless inning...earned his second career save on 3/11 at San Diego State pitching a scoreless bottom of the 13th with a strike out...pitched three scoreless innings against Pepperdine on 3/7...pitched three scoreless innings with two strike outs against Nevada on 5/1...threw a career-best 3.1 innings against Sacramento State on 5/8...tied a career-high with three strike outs in 2.1 innings pitched against San Francisco on 5/26...in West Coast Conference action he made nine appearances throwing 12.1 innings, sporting a 4.38 ERA.
2011 (Summer): Played with teammates Kyle Barraclough, Greg Ditmer and Ryan Brockett on the Neptune Beach Pearl in the Far West League...helped guide his team to a second place finish in the Southern Division.
2011 (Freshman): Made 13 appearances for the Gaels all coming out of the bullpen...made his collegiate debut on 2/20 vs. San Jose State....recorded his first career strikeout that game...in 15.2 innings pitched he boasted a 1-2 record with a 3.45 ERA, allowing 12 hits, six earned runs, seven walks and 12 strikeouts...recorded his first career win on 2/22 at Sacramento State, went 2.1 scoreless innings, striking out a career-high three batters in the extra innings win...notched first career save, preserving the 2-0 win over UC Riverside on 3/18...opponents hit just .218 against Cortese...averaged an impressive 6.89 k/9 average...also did an excellent job of limiting the hits to singles allowing just three doubles with no triples or home runs.
High School: Comes to Moraga by way of Fremont, CA where he attended St. Thomas More High School...while at More he was an eight-time letter winner for the Knights, four in baseball and four in basketball...his senior season he was named league MVP and First Team All-Private School Athletic League...in 2010 he went 6-1 with two complete games and one shutout, recording 68 strikeouts to just 22 walks, with a 2.08 ERA and a .146 opponents batting average...he also led the league in all major offensive categories, hitting .741, with 40 hits, 39 runs, 14 doubles, six triples, and five homeruns, while driving in 39 RBI.
