1/25/2011 12:00:00 AM | Men's Golf
MORAGA, Calif.- Saint Mary's men's golf player Henrik Holm hails from Stabekk, Norway and enters his final season as a Gael. Last season, Holm was named an Honorable Mention All-West Coast Conference selection after finishing 12th at the 2010 WCC Championships with rounds of 72-79-75. During the fall season, Holm had his best outing in the final tournament at the Pacific Invitational, where he finished at +5 with rounds of 71-74-73. With the start of the spring season only 12 days, Holm took some time talk about the upcoming season and a little bit more about himself.
What are your goals for the spring, both as a team and individually?
As a team, our goal is to get a team win and qualify for Regionals. Individually, I want to be ranked in the top-500.
Why did you choose SMC?
I chose Saint Mary's because of the coach and the location. Being able to play golf all year was definitely a deciding factor as well.
What is the best part of your game?
I'd say it is driving the ball. I wish I could say it was putting.
What do you most enjoy about the sport of golf?
I most enjoy the mental part of the game, although it's a love-hate relationship.
What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?
In one way or the other it will involve golf. I honestly have no idea, except I'm pretty sure I'll be living in Europe.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Breathe fire.
You are originally from Norway, what do you miss most about home?
The snow! Although I came to California because of the warm weather, I miss Norwegian winters.
Who has been the most influential person in your life?
My dad.
If you couldn't play golf, what sport would you most like to play? Why?
I'd say it would probably be downhill skiing. I had to give that up to play golf full time.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
Don't worry about the things you can't control.
What is your favorite place that you have visited?
Rome
What kind of music do you listen to before an important round?
I usually don't listen to music before a competitive round, but if I do its house music.
What is something most people don't know about you?
I used to be a competitive skier and I worked as a ski coach for three years.
