MARANA, Ariz. - The Saint Mary's men's golf team finished in a tie for eighth place after round one of the 2026 NCAA Marana Regional at Gallery Golf Club on Monday. The Gaels were led by senior Aidan Lee who was the team's low scorer, shooting a first round 70 (-2) to put himself inside the top-15 individually. Lee got off to a hot start with four birdies over his first nine holes to sit at three-under and inside the top-10. The SoCal native would stumble into the clubhouse with back-to-back bogeys but got a nice par save on the par five ninth to remain at two-under.
Saint Mary's started its day off the tenth tee and grinded to a one-over finish through its first nine holes. The Gaels would waiver a bit on the front nine but stay in the mix, sitting at four-over par as a team in a tie with No. 33 Clemson out of the ACC for eighth place out of the 14-team field. Redshirt junior Inigo Izuzquiza was the other Gael to finish the day in red figures, recording a pair of birdies on the front nine to climb to 1-under-par. Izuzquiza played his final four holes one-under with a birdie on the par five sixth before recording three consecutive pars on seven, eight and nine to conclude his round. Senior Mitchell Hoey and redshirt sophomore Avery Lazarski were the other two counting scores for the Gaels, Hoey with a 74 (+2) and Lazarski carding a 77 (+5).
Saint Mary's will flip and tee off on one for round two Tuesday morning and look to take advantage of milder morning conditions in Marana. Four of the first five holes on the front played under par including the par five sixth which saw a round high 28 birdies on Monday. Sam Baumuller will get things going for the Gaels at 7:55 a.m. with the rest of the lineup to follow off the first tee.
