MORAGA, Calif. -- Saint Mary's senior guard Mickey McConnell was named honorable mention All-America today by the Associated Press.
Only the fifth West Coast Conference Player of the Year in Saint Mary's history, McConnell ended his career recently as one of the top players in school history. The Mesa, Ariz. native was a two-time all-WCC honoree and was named an all-district selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the United States Basketball Writers of America.
A four-time WCC Player of the Week, McConnell is 12th on the school's career scoring charts with 1,234 points. He finished his career as the Gaels' second-best three-point shooter and is fifth on the school's free throw shooting listings. In addition, McConnell's 476 assists is third on the SMC career rankings. He played in 124 games during his four seasons.
McConnell is the only player from the WCC listed among the AP's first, second, third and honorable mention teams.
