
SMC Golfer Second Best Amateur At Norwegian Challenge

SLATTUM, Norway - Saint Mary's senior golfer Anders Engell shot an even-par 72 in today's second round and finished just two shots away from making the cut at the Norwegian Challenge at Hauger Golf Klubb.
Engell finished the European Challenge Tour event with a 1 over-par 145 and tied for 80th place overall. The cut was set at 1-under par with 71 golfers in the field of 156 advancing to Saturday's third round of play.
The Oslo, Norway native moved-up 15 places today after making a late charge with two birdies among the last four holes of his round. Engell registered four birdies and four bogeys in the round to finish at even-par on the 7,012-yard, par 72 course.
Engell was the second-highest finisher among the five amateurs in the field and he was 10th among all players from Norway.
The Challenge Tour is the second tier professional tour in Europe and is operated by the PGA European Tour. Players who are successful in the Challenge Tour can qualify for membership in the full European Tour the following year.
Saint Mary's opens its season September 19-20 by hosting the Saint Mary's Invitational at Bayonet and Blackhorse Golf Clubs in Seaside, Calif.
