
Former SMC Forward Named To Stankovic Cup Team

Recent Saint Mary's graduate Clint Steindl is among the 12 players selected to represent Australia at the Borislav Stankovic Cup that begins tomorrow in Guangzhou, China.
The Aussies open the tournament against Russia tomorrow, then face the host nation China on Saturday and Tunisia on Sunday. The final is scheduled for Tuesday, July 10.
A native of Mackay, Queensland, Australia, Steindl recently signed a professional contract to play with the Cairns Taipans in Australia's National Basketball League. He concluded his career at Saint Mary's ranked in several categories of the program's record book: Sixth in 3-point field goals made (185), 5th in 3-point field goal attempts (463), seventh in 3-point field goal percentage (.400) and sixth in games played (122).
Steindl played for the Boomers last summer in three events, including a two-game home series against China as well as the Four Nations Tournament and the World University Games - both in China. He averaged 7.6 points, 1.7 rebounds and 17.7 minutes in seven appearances at the World University Games, scoring scored 15 points against Mexico and 11 each against Serbia and the Czech Republic.
Rising senior Saint Mary's guard Matthew Dellavedova played in last year's Stankovic Cup, averaging 8.8 points and 3.0 assists in 25 minutes per game. The Aussies fell to Angola 85-66 in the championship game.
Dellavedova and Patrick Mills were recently named to the Boomers squad that will represent Australia at the London Olympic Games that begin later this month.
