VB | Gillcrist Named To WCC All-Academic Team

MORAGA, Calif. -- Saint Mary's volleyball player Rachel Gillcrist enjoyed a strong final season as a Gael on the court but was equally proficient off it, earning a spot on the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team as selected by the conference.
A native of Lakewood, Colo., Gillcrist carries a 3.68 GPA with a major in psychology. That strong academic performance, combined with a resurgence on the court in her last season in Moraga, earned Gillcrist a spot on the 12-person team.
One of the conference's top middle blockers, Gillcrist finished the season with a team-high 1.30 blocks per set. She played in a team-high 104 sets, and also collected 1.12 kills per set. Her best individual match came at home against San Francisco on Oct. 25 when she registered 14 kills and nine blocks to help the Gaels win in four sets.
Gillcrist wasn't the only Gael to receive recognition for her work in the classroom. Fellow senior Samantha Tinsley was one of 16 players to earn honorable mention for a strong season both on and off the court. Tinsley led Saint Mary's in kills this season with 3.28 per set.
