KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Saint Mary's forward Brad Waldow and guard Stephen Holt were recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches as members of the NABC Division I All-District 9 team.
NABC coaches select and vote on the honorees, which represent the finest men's basketball players from across the country. The 252 student-athletes, from 25 districts, are eligible for the NABC Coaches' Division I All-America teams.
Waldow is joined by Alan Williams from UC Santa Barbara, Tyler Haws from BYU and Kevin Pangos and Sam Dower from Gonzaga on the District 9 first team. In addition to Holt, the second team consists of Mike Caffey from Long Beach State, Anthony Ireland of Loyola Marymount, Isaac Fotu from Hawai'i and San Francisco's Cole Dickerson.
The inclusion of Waldow and Holt extended the Gaels' streak of having at least one NABC All-District selection to seven straight and nine of the last 10 years. Last year, Matthew Dellavedova earned first-team honors.
Last week, Holt and Waldow each earned first-team All-West Coast Conference honors by the league's coaches.
About the National Association of Basketball Coaches
Located in Kansas City, Mo., the NABC was founded in 1927 by Forrest "Phog" Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education. Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.org.
