Nicole Briceno-Garzon Bio

Nicole Briceno-Garzon joined the Saint Mary's women's tennis team for the 2014 season as a volunteer assistant.

Prior to arriving at Saint Mary's, Briceno-Garzon served as an assistant coach at the University of Maryland and University at Albany, where she helped guide the Great Danes to their first conference final appearance in school history and had a hand in the school's first-ever wins over UMBC and Binghamton. At both schools she had several roles including but not limited to recruiting top international and national athletes, player development (technical, tactical and mental), administrative duties, organizing and directing team practices, community outreach and fundraising.

Prior to Maryland and Albany, Briceno-Garzon served as a volunteer student assistant for her alma mater, SMU, then-ranked a top 25 team in the country. As a volunteer assistant, she was responsible for several administrative duties along with running practices for non-travel squad, on-court coaching and a hitting partner for the team.

As a collegian, Briceno-Garzon played for Southern Methodist and Alabama. An important leader on her SMU squad, Briceno-Garzon led the Mustangs to a national ranking of No. 21, highest in program history, and to the Conference USA championship. She set the record for most doubles wins ever at SMU, achieving a 21-1 season record. She and partner Ksenia Tokarieva achieved a career high doubles national ranking of No. 38. During her time at SMU, Briceno-Garzon earned multiple Conference USA Player of the Week awards and was named the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year in 2008.

Prior to transferring to SMU, Briceno-Garzon played at the University of Alabama where she played mainly at the No. 2 and 3 positions and was named Player of the Year in 2006-2007 season.

An outstanding student, Briceno-Garzon graduated from SMU in 2010 with a 3.6 GPA majoring in Psychology and Spanish and is working on her masters in Mental Health Counseling. She received the SMU Minority Academic Excellence Award three straight years, and was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. At Alabama, Briceno-Garzon was named to the Dean's List and the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll. Currently, she is a full-time Assistant Pro at the prestigious Berkeley Tennis Club in Berkeley, CA and specifically is responsible for directing and organizing the junior program along with running adult clinics and private lessons.
