
GOLF | Marr Leads Gaels In Oregon

BANDON, Ore. -- Junior Maclayne Marr fired a 3-under par 69 and the Saint Mary's men's golf team sits in second place at 5-under after the first day of competition at the Bandon Dunes Championship.
The Gaels finished the first day just two strokes behind tournament leaders UC Davis and a pair of strokes ahead of third-place Duke and the University of Missouri. 36th ranked Colorado is in fifth at 2-under par.
The 16-team field returns to action tomorrow morning for the second of three rounds in the 54-hole tournament on the 6,830-yard, par 72 yard Bandon Dunes Course. The event is scheduled to conclude with a final round on Sunday.
Marr, a native of Sydney, Australia, carded four birdies and a bogey in today's round for his fourth round of even par or better this season. He is in tie with Utah Valley's Brayden Ericksen for fourth place. San Jose State's Cody Blick, the brother of SMC freshman Connor Blick, leads the medalist race after posting a 7-under par 65.
Saint Mary's junior Jonathan De Los Reyes shot a 2-under par 70 and is tied with 7 other golfers for sixth place in the field of 91 competitors. Ranked 95th nationally, he scored three birdies and just one bogey.
Senior Tye Gabriel and freshman Pavan Sagoo are tied for 25th overall at even par 72, while freshman Perry Cohen is tied for 45th at 2-over par. Blick, playing as an individual, is also in that7-golfer tie for 45th place.
After opening the round with a pair of pars, Marr posted consecutive birdies on holes 3 and 4. He opened the back nine with a birdie on 10 before dropping a stroke with a bogey on the par 4, 450-yard 11th hole. He moved to 3-under with a birdie on hole 12 they scored par on his five six holes.
