MORAGA, Calif. — The international presence on the Saint Mary's men's basketball team continues as head coach Randy Bennett announced the signing of talented guards Kristers Zoriks and Angus Glover to National Letters of Intent.
"Both Kristers and Angus come from very good basketball programs," said Bennett. "Both of these guys have tremendous character and are welcome additions to our Gael basketball family."
Kristers Zoriks
6-3 • Guard • Freshman
Dobele, Latvia (New Hampton School)
Zoriks was a key member of the U18 Latvian national team. Playing on the U16 national team, Zoriks won a silver medal at the 2014 FIBA European Championship and was named to the All-Tournament team.
Kristers is a good size guard that can also play both guard positions," explained Bennett. "We see him as a guard who can step in and play right away. He has great vision and should be a very good player within our offense because of his ability to read on-ball situations and see the floor."
In his time at New Hampton School in New Hampshire, the guard led his team to an overall record, 21-8 during 2015-16. Zoriks also helped the team win the NEPSAC (New England Preparatory School Athletic Council) AAA regular season title in 2015, and led the team to as high as a No. 3 in the national rankings.
Angus Glover
6-4 • Guard • Freshman
Wollongong, New South Whales, Australia • Australia Centre of Excellence (formerly AIS)
A guard with good size, Glover brings a lot of quality experience for a young player. He is currently a member of U19 Australian national team and played alongside current Gaels- Kyle Clark, Jordan Hunter and Tanner Krebs in the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championships.
"We are excited to have Angus as a part of our program," stated Bennett. "He brings us a very athletic, good-sized guard that can play both guard positions. His defensive ability should enable him to help us immediately. We feel he is the next very good player to join us from the Australian pipeline."
During the 2015 U18 Australian Junior Championship, Glover led the New South Whales Country (NSW) to the title with 24 points in the final match.
After a season opening win versus Nevada, the Gaels are slated for a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday night versus Prairie View A&M. SMC will then travel to Ohio to face the Dayton Flyers on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 11 a.m. For the latest news on Saint Mary's basketball stay tuned to SMCGaels.com.
