SEASIDE, Calif. -- In a field of 108 top collegiate golfers, Saint Mary's senior Pavan Sagoo continued to showcase his strong form, claiming the title at the 2018 McClure Cup Amateur Sunday afternoon at the Bayonet and Black Golf Course.
Sagoo entered the final round just one stroke off the lead, and used a 4-under 68 in tough conditions to pull away from the field on Sunday. The senior shot six birdies during the round with no bogeys in his back-nine to claim the top position on the leaderboard.
Out of all the players in the field, Sagoo was the lone student-athlete to shoot sub par-70 in both rounds.
Ed Hackett (Alabama State, -3), Thomas Hutchison (UC Davis, -3), Stanford's number one player Brandon Wu (-2) and Saint Mary's Connor Blick (-2) rounded out the top-5 of the strong leaderboard.
During the fall season, Sagoo averaged 70.43 strokes per round to lead the Gaels through 14 rounds played. The London native finished the fall season with two top-5 finishes.
The McClure Cup Amateur is a 36-hole, stroke play event comprised of top collegiate golfers across the nation.
