Saint Mary's picked up three singles wins and a doubles victory on the opening day in Fresno.
FRESNO, Calif. — On the opening day of the Bulldog Classic, Saint Mary's earned four wins, including three on the singles court, to move into the next round of play on Saturday.
THE DRAW
In singles, Abhishek Bastola earned another win in his impressive fall showing with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Hermont Legaspi from Sacramento State. Another newcomer who earned a win for the Gaels was Akbar Mamirov who defeated Nevada's Dylan Levitt in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Wrapping up the victories in singles was senior Brian Lee who took down conference rival USF's David Woodland in a breezy 6-0, 6-3 performance.
The Gaels' lone victorious doubles duo on Friday was the tandem of Daniel Krutik and David Abfalter who had a dominating 8-2 set against Merville/N'tcha of Nevada. The duo will take on Nuno/Bohren from Azusa Pacific tomorrow.
