MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's looks to remain hot this week as they hit the road to take on WCC rivals San Diego and BYU. The Gaels are currently riding a seven-game win streak going into their first conference matches of the season.
Saint Mary's will take on San Diego on Thursday night at 7 p.m. and face off against BYU on Saturday at 11 a.m. with both games taking place on the road.
SCOUTING REPORT: The Gaels head into the week with an 8-2 overall record and have posted exciting numbers thus far: senior middle blocker
Lindsey Calvin is currently leading the team offensively in hitting percentage (.322) and kills (132). Senior outside hitter
Lindsey Knudsen is close on her heels with 127 kills, while junior middle blocker
Alex O'Sullivan is second in hitting percentage with a .262 mark.
San Diego: The Toreros enter conference-play with a 3-6 record. San Diego is coming off of a split double-header in which they swept Louisiana, then lost to Oregon State 3-2. Middle blocker Kaity Edwards holds the team-high for hitting percentage at .330 and outside hitter Lauren Fuller is leading the team with 101 kills.
BYU: BYU is 10-0 on the season and is ranked No. 1 in the nation. The Cougars are coming off of two sweeps, one against Utah and one against Weber State. BYU has a match ahead of their game against Saint Mary's and will be playing Pacific on Thursday. Senior setter Lyndie Haddock-Eppich, who was named WCC Player of the Week on Monday, has recorded a .429 hitting percentage this season.
LAST WEEKEND: Saint Mary's is coming off of two impressive wins last week, as they
defeated Nevada 3-2 and
swept Cal 3-0. Calvin picked up a total of 30 kills while Knudsen collected five aces over the last two matches.
UP NEXT: The Gaels will continue to meet conference rivals in the next week with a match against San Francisco at McKeon Pavilion, followed by an away match versus Pacific.
