MSOC | No. 17 Gaels Soil No. 13 Aggies Undefeated Season, 1-0

No. 17 Saint Mary's takes down No. 13 UC Davis, with a strong showing from midfielder Sebastian Schacht.

DAVIS, Calif. — The No. 17 Gaels faced off against the No. 13 Aggies on Saturday in their toughest match of the season so far. Saint Mary's grinded for the 1-0 win to remain undefeated and improve to 9-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sebastian Schacht scored the lone goal of the match and his first goal of the season on a header in the 56th minute with an assist from Stephen Dougherty. The assist from Dougherty came on a cross off a set piece that Schacht found while sprinting through the box and connected with for his career goal.

Both teams played a chippy first half as 19 of the match's 31 fouls and four of the match's eight yellow cards were committed in the opening half. The Gaels kept UC Davis on their toes in the first, taking eight shots and forcing Aggies goalie Wallis Lapsley to record four saves before the half was over.

The Gaels turned up the heat even more in the second half, recording 13 shots and the eventual goal by Schacht in the 56th minute. Anders Engebretsen and Jake Rudel led the offense with Engebretsen notching seven shots with four on goal and Rudel firing four shots with one on net.

This is the fourth time in the last five matches that the Gaels have recorded over 20 shots in a game. Entering the match, Saint Mary's was ranked seventh in the NCAA in shots taken per match.
