WSOC | Gaels Open WCC Play This Week at Home

Saint Mary's will begin their conference schedule this weekend as they host Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine.

MORAGA, Calif. — After a successful 5-4-1 non-conference showing, Saint Mary's will begin West Coast Conference action this week with two home matches against Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine.

Friday's match against the Lions will kickoff at 3:30 p.m. while Sunday's matinee against the Waves begins at 1 p.m. Links to live stats and streams can be found on the Gaels' schedule page.

Saint Mary's is coming off a 2-0 win over UC Davis and the team is 3-1-1 in their past five matches. Maleah Milner and the Gaels' defense have three clean sheets within that span and have held their opponents to a goal or less in seven of their 10 contests. Milner is third in the conference in saves this season.  

SMC had four assists in their match against UC Davis on just two goals while Jaylen Crim leads the team and ranks third in the WCC in helpers with five. Jordyn Cunningham has proved to score timely goals for the Gaels this season as three of her four tallies have been game-winners.

ABOUT LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
Loyola Marymount is 2-6-3 this season as they are coming off a 2-2 tie against Long Beach State last weekend.

On the offensive side of the ball, Skylar Robledo leads the Lions with 16 shots this season as Jolyn Lupa and Sarina Bolden lead the team with two goals a piece. In the net, Charlee Priutt has recorded 41 saves in 11 games played.

Saint Mary's has a record of 8-14-3 all-time versus LMU. The teams have been evenly matched in recent years with a 2-2-1 record against each other.

ABOUT PEPPERDINE
Pepperdine has a 5-5 record this season and their last game against UC Santa Barbara resulted with a 1-0 win for the Waves. The Waves have outshot their opponents 117-85 this season and have recorded five shutouts with all five resulting in wins.

Joelle Anderson is leading the Waves offense with three goals and 21 shots while goalie Brielle Preece has tallied 15 saves and five shutouts thus far.

The Gaels and the Waves last played each other in 2017 which resulted in a scoreless draw in double overtime. Saint Mary's holds a 7-11-5 all-time record between the two teams.
