The Cougars put up a strong offensive surge against the Gaels on Friday night in the lopsided win.
PROVO, Utah — Saint Mary's (6-7-1, 0-3-1 WCC) couldn't overcome one of the toughest teams in the nation on Friday night as they fell 8-0 on the road to No. 5 BYU (13-0-1, 3-0-1 WCC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
BYU's potent offense came racing out the gates as the Cougars took the first 14 shots of the match and possessed a 4-0 lead going into the halftime break. Saint Mary's held BYU scoreless for the first 26 minutes of the match before the Cougars scored three goals in a stretch of four and a half minutes. BYU added another score just minutes before the first half ended.
The Cougars added four more in the second half including two in the final two minutes of the contest. Mikayla Colohan led the charge for BYU with two goals and an assist while Elise Flake also scored twice.
Maleah Milner made fives saves in the match before exiting in the second half due to injury. Saint Mary's took five attempts at goal by five different players and also recorded three corner kicks. A total of 20 Gaels saw the pitch in the contest and defender Anna Parker played all 90 minutes.
